The Good, the Bad and Getting Back to Bali

When the news finally came that the borders to WA were coming down and we would be free to travel again, there was a sense of excitement and also trepidation. What was it like in the outside world post COVID?

You needn’t worry, because when we headed back to Bali last month was an absolute joy, and a reminder that travelling and taking a break from everyday life is good for the soul. Let us explore the good and the bad in the beautiful Bali.

The Good

New services

GoJek and GoGrab – Bali’s answer to our Uber. It was so convenient for small trips around Bali. and perfect for when we needed a meal to be delivered to our villa poolside! There was also no need to use our credit cards as these guys took cash on delivery.

Customer Service

The VIP exit at the airport, a private driver for the entire stay that doubles as a tour guide, lovely smiling wait staff and villa staff all excited to see Australians travelling again. It’s all very pleasant!

Pamper

For the price of a one massage at home, you can have 4 or 5 here (depending where you go). If you’re after cheap and cheerful, these salons are in abundance. If you’re looking for luxury, Canggu has plenty and all at such amazing prices and quality. Body scrubs, facials, massages and hair treatments – this is place to relax, refresh and recharge.

Wellness plus Adventure

Weather you enjoy a morning yoga session, a waterfall swim or a quad bike trail blaze, Bali can deliver. There is enough going on on this small island to keep you entertained for months. Our favourites – Canggu yoga studio The Practice, ATV adventure quad biking and a day trip to the waterfalls and Omma Day Club.

Beach Clubs Galore

How can one decide on just one? Beach Clubs have become hugely popular in Bali and are the perfect place to unwind, people watch and enjoy the delicious food and cocktails on offer. Our favourites – Finns, Sundays, Atlas, Potato Head, La Brisa and The Lawn.

The Bad

Traffic

It’s bad! And a one-hour trip can easily turn into a 2–3-hour trip. Plan your day early if you can and beat the rush. Canggu is our favourite haven as you can walk most places and it’s roads are all dead ends meaning less traffic thoroughfare too.

Bali Belly

Famous for ruining your holiday! Stay away from uncooked seafood on display in ice at restaurants, don’t drink tap water and sanitise your hands frequently. If you do get sick, there are services that can come to you at your accommodation with antibiotics.

Flight delays and cancellations

It could happen to you! So make sure you have the right travel insurance in case you are spending an extra few days.

If you’ve been thinking about getting back out there, it’s not as scary as you think!

If you’re looking for a Bali package where you can experience it all with trusted suppliers, we recommend The Bali Bucket List. With your choice of a 3, 5 or a 7 night stay including a daily private driver, daily breakfast, airport transfers and your choice of amazing activities – this is a truly memorable trip which can be organised all for you. All you need to do is book your flights.
